I love kayaking and the movement of the water fascinates me. For this piece I worked from a photograph I took one late August day. The sun had set and I was stretching my time on the water as long as I could because I knew it would be my last visit to Algonquin Park, Ontario, that summer. I worked in pastel on royal blue paper, beginning with hard pastels for my initial drawing and then using soft pastels.
