painted predominantly using Unison and Terry Ludwig pastels, this is a portrait of my partner, of a moment I noticed him kneeling in front of the fire on a small getaway break- I loved the dramatic cosy effect of the lighting, enhanced by the red and orange outfit he was already wearing, I simply couldnt resist painting it! I used Black velour paper which is incredibly dark, and I really wanted to focus on the saturation of the colours against the black of the paper, playing with negative space-afterall, it's equally as much about what you don't put on the paper, as what you do!
