Tucked away in the corner of a nearby park, I was inspired by this hillside, with a cluster Indian Tobacco jutting up and proclaiming itself! The unique uphill perspective was exciting for me. Beginning with a watercolor underpainting, the hillside came alive in dappled softer tones. The interplay of this "crazy quilt" surface set the tone for the assertive swaying of these hardy reeds.
