This painting was inspired during a hike with an old friend in late March, 2021 in the White Memorial in Morris, CT. The light and shadows of this vista drew me in to photograph it. My process began by creating a composition from two photographs. Then, I made a value study to have a road map for my lights, mediums, and darks. After I drew my large shapes, I created an underpainting with pastel and denatured alcohol. Finally, I went on to paint with a combination of hard and soft pastels and pastel pencils.
