When We Were Young

When We Were Young, Emerging Pastel Artist
When We Were Young
My late Father once drew me a pencil sketch of his grandmother's farm, where he and his brothers loved spending their summers. I used his sketch to bring his memories to life. From what he told me, my Great Grandmother had a fear of snakes, so she would only allow dirt for the back yard area. They had chickens, one dog, cat, mule and a horse. They raised corn and cotton in their fields, and had no indoor water or electricity. They were very simply happy and comfortable. I have shown my Great Grandmother putting laundry on the clothes line in her back yard, and 3 boys near her playing marbles in the dirt, with the dog watching. The town was Notasulga, Alabama.
